Dakota Johnson Put a Sultry Spin on the Blazer Minidress

July 2024 · 2 minute read

Blazer minidresses are everywhere lately.

Celebrities like Megan Fox, Zendaya, and Sophie Turner have all been spotted heralding the office-chic trend. And now, Dakota Johnson is getting in on the look—and putting her own personal spin on it.

Attending the Tribeca Film Festival yesterday, the Persuasion star and her stylist, Kate Young, pulled an ivory white blazer minidress from New York–based label Area for the appearance. Unassuming from the front, the sleek piece featured rows of draped crystals at the back, hinting at the illusion of a bejeweled spine.

Johnson and Young finished the look with a pair of sparkling silver pumps, Ana Khouri diamond earrings, and a black Gucci Jackie 1961 shoulder bag adorned with a gold chain strap.

The actress previously talked to Young about working together to curate her wardrobe. "I love mood boards," Johnson said in a video posted to the stylist's YouTube channel. "I use them for clothing, for emotion, and meals. Mood boards are like playlists for physical things."

Young then reflected on how Johnson's style has matured since the two started working together. "In our time together, your style has evolved a little bit. But, honestly, you kind of came with your style. You have a really nice minimal, sort of sensual simplicity to you," she said. "But also, there's the nice disco ball quality."

Johnson affirmed her evaluation of her personal style. "I am definitely a disco ball," she said, joking, "I'm just a regular ball in the daytime, and then a disco ball at night."
